CTAG (Career-Technical Assurance Guides) – Statewide Credit Option

Students who have successfully mastered technical coursework in high school are eligible for advanced college credit if they continue their pathway at a Ohio college or university. CTAGS allow for students to:

• Take equivalent technical courses anywhere within the public educational system
• Obtain technical credits (upon enrollment in higher education) without unnecessary duplication or institutional barriers
• Attain their highest educational aspirations in the most efficient and effective manner as a result of clear and consistent standards

CTAG is a collaborative created to establish criteria, policies, and procedures whereby students are awarded college credit for agreed-upon technical knowledge and skills in equivalent courses/programs that are based on recognized industry standards.

The articulation and transfer initiative engages the Ohio Department of Higher Education and the Office of Career Technical Education of the Ohio Department of Education, public secondary/adult career technical education institutions and state-supported institutions of higher education.

CTAG helps more high school and adult career-technical students to go to college and enter with college credit; technical credit saves students money and time; and Ohio business and industry will benefit from more employees with higher education and advanced skills.

ITAG (Industry Recognized Credential Transfer Assurance Guides) – Statewide Credit Option for Credentials

ITAGS are a statewide transfer initiative that guarantees the awarding of college-level credit to students who earn agreed-upon, industry-recognized credentials. The award of credit is based upon the knowledge, skills, and competencies gained through credential attainment, regardless of where the learning to prepare for the credential took place.

In some instances, ITAGs will overlap with other transfer initiatives. This will expand access to other statewide transfer agreements (CTAGs, MTAGs, and TAGs) but not replace them.

Students looking to access credit for the Industry Recognized Credential should have documentation ready to submit to the colleges for review. Each public institution will have a different process for this verification, so when matriculating to their college of choice, students should contact the academic advisor or university registrar’s office to inquire about these submission steps.
