In June 2025 The Ohio Department of Higher Education released the following new and updated CompTIA Industry-Recognized Credential Transfer Assurance Guides (ITAGs).

New ITAGs

  • ITIT021 IT Fundamentals (CompTIA Tech+ or ITF+)
  • ITIT014 PC Operating System, Hardware Operation, and Maintenance (CompTIA A+)

Updated ITAGs

  • ITITN002 Introduction to Networking (CompTIA Network+)
  • ITITS015 CompTIA Security+

ITAG Endorsement: The ITAG initiative guarantees the award of college credit to students who have earned agreed-upon, industry-recognized credentials, regardless of where education/training for the credential occurred. The initiative was instituted by the Chancellor in February 2021. More information about ITAGs can be found on this webpage. The CompTIA ITAG panel was composed of college and university faculty experts from across the state. Panel members are listed on the last page of the ITAG documents.

The ITAGs allow individuals who hold any of the credentials in the table below to be awarded the indicated credit hours toward the equivalent course at an Ohio public college or university, regardless of where they received the education to prepare for the credentialing exam. The credentials are issued by CompTIA.

Course Certification Current Exam Number
ITIT014 PC Operating System, Hardware Operation, and Maintenance/A+ CompTIA A+ 220-1102 and 220-1102
ITIT021 IT Fundamentals CompTIA ITF+ or Tech+ FC0-U61 or  FC0-U71
ITITN002 Introduction to Networking CompTIA Network+ N10-009
ITITS015 CompTIA Security+ CompTIA Security+ SY0-701

Compliance Expectations: Institutions offering courses similar to ITIT021 IT Fundamentals will be expected to submit them for review by an ITAG faculty panel in CEMS. Submission templates to assist institutions can be found on the ITAG Submission webpage, and a list of courses that are expected for submission can be viewed on the ITAG Compliance webpage.

The Introduction to Networking ITAG shares a common set of learning outcomes with the respective TAG and CTAG courses, and the Security+ and A+ ITAGs share a common set of learning outcomes with the respective CTAG courses only. Institutions should continue to submit these courses in the Course Equivalency Management System (CEMS) through either the TAG or CTAG approval processes, as indicated by the shading in the table below. (The ITAG Submission webpage also indicates the appropriate submission process for each course.) Once a course is approved as a TAG or CTAG, it will automatically be approved for the corresponding ITAG.

Course TAG CTAG
ITIT014 PC Operating System, Hardware Operation, and Maintenance/A+   CTIT014
ITITN002 Introduction to Networking OIT002 CTIT002
ITITS015 CompTIA Security+   CTIT015

The learning outcomes for the continuing ITAGs ITITN002 and ITITS015 have not been updated, so no resubmission of currently approved courses will be required and current course approvals will remain active.

ITAG approvals for ITIT014 have already been processed in CEMS for courses with current CTAG approval for CTIT014, with an effective date of Summer 2025.

If eligible students request to access credit before a course has been approved, institutions are encouraged to work with the students to award appropriate credit toward degree requirements.
